Fantasy Books

Many students are reading fantasy books this year. Most are involved in a particular series, like Redwall or something similar. What are you guys reading?

I've just reread Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and it's uncomparable to the movie. The book's more time consuming and since I'm not to fond of reading the movie was beter no questions asked. But the book was pretty good for a Fantasy book.

Well I really like the Redwall books. They are fantasy, really. Although the author ,Brain Jacaques, doesn't like to say so. He doesn't like the idea that fantasy usually corasponds with magic and dragons, things like that. Their is not really any magic in Redwall, unless you count Matin the warriors guiding spirt. Well anyway I just really like them and I think every one should read them!

I'm reading the Pendragon series now since everyone thought it was good. I'm only a hundred pages into the first one, but I can see the allure. I really like the way it goes back and forth between two worlds. Each has enough drama and action to make sure the reader is interested. Very creative stuff too, with the ring being the wormhole and stuff like that. It reminds me a lot of The Talisman, by Stephen King and Peter Straub. If you have not read that, you should.

My favorite fantasy series is Redwall. For those of you who aren't familiar with this series it's set in mideval times and the characters are animals(there are no humans). It's a very well rounded series, it has great variety in the stories, some are at the abbey, some are in the mountains. Overall, Redawall is the best fantasy series I've read.

j'ai fini le livre que s'appelle artemis fowle par eoin colfer. j'ai l'aimé. hmm i thought the blurred line between absolutes (good or evil) was great. same with the antagonist in princess mononoke, having n-dimensional personalities livened up the stories because they were invariable and believable. at the opposite end, having absolutes like emperor palpatine or satan from christian mythology had stopped making sense. like the word forever .. i cant imagine what is forever .. anyhoo, it feels like jk rowling has started a trend.

I thnk thapeople should read monsters of mytholgy. I think this because it is a good seris and it can teach alot about greek mytholgy. Each book tells about a diffrent monster and how it lived. These stories are very good and great. (MOM)

ok, i'm convinced. i'll read the redwall series right after i'm done with the pendragon series. man, i'm going to be fantasied out by the end of this year. i'm not a big fantasy reader in the first place, and this might be overload. maybe by april i'll have a pet dragon.

Redwall is a good series, but after reading all of them, ALL LIKE 500 of them, you get kind of tired of the series. Granted, its a greatr series, but the stories are all pretty similiar, and it is pretty cliche'd. you would probably be better off with mrs frisbee and the rats of nimh.

Dude, "The Golden Compass" is a must read. I mean it! I think it's even better than the Pendragon series. So go check it out in the Hixson Library. It's got everything anyone could every want in a book.

I dont know if anyones interested, but they are making a series of unfortunate events MOVIE! you can learn a lot more about it on lemonysnicket.com or www.countolaf.com. It really looks like him, and i know it isnt really a fantasy book, but a two hundredstory penthouse, and a flying house, come on! if you havent read the books, you really should. they arent the most advanced things in the world, but they can be good for a quick, depressing read.

I really enjoy the Harry Potter books. I've read everyone at least twice and the third like five times. As nearly everyone is famlier with the books I won't tell about them, the only thing I will say is that they are addicting (sp?) and once you start reading them you can't stop!

Ok, never really got why people are so into The Redwall Series. I suggest The Merlin series by T.A. Barron if you haven't already. It's about Merlin(Obviously) when he is 12 to about 16 or 17. So far there are five books that are out. I hear there's a new book that is the continuation of the last book 'The Wings of Merlin'. I'm blanking out on what the book is called though.

I'm really into reading fantsy and all different kinds of books. Right now I am reading 3 books and they all are really good. I'm reading A Wrinkle in Time whish is REALLY good because I'm just now getting to the really exciting part, but then again all parts of this book are really good parts. And then I'm reading Dragon Rider which is soooo good. Thie author of this book ( I forget her name) is really discriptive, I just love her style of writing. And last but not least, I'm reading Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging. It isn't really fantasy, but it is still really good. Well that's all!

Um... sorry bout my last comment. kinda stupid i know. But if you want a really good series, you should probably read thewrinkle in time books. another good book series is the books by nealshusterman. He is one seriously crazy whacked out dude. Short stories are also good. The lottery is one of my favorites. If you are in drama youve probably seen the movie already, but the book is reaaly better. In case you havent heard of the lottery, ill give you a hint on what its about. CONFORMITY GONE MAD. read anyone of these books. they are all good.

The best fantasy book that i've read is "Harry Potter and The Order of The Pheonix" by J.K Rowling. I suppose these books will get better as the books go on though it is tough to beat this one. The battles in this book are exciting and are written well. The only way someone could not like this series is if the have never read it. I'm ready for number six.

Hey Mr. Eckert-
I took your word for it and started to read the "Pendraon" series. I couldn't put the book down1 I read the first one in like, one night. O My Gosh it was so good. It's one of my favorite new series ever! I just started book # 2. I agree with you when you say that its interesting when Bobby writes letters and the book goes back and forh between Cloral and Second Earth or Denduron. In Denduron, I liked Loor because in a way I thought she controlled the book. In Second Earth I liked Courtney because she stood up for Bobby and wasnt afraid to speak her mind and let her voice be heard. I liked when she yelled at the police.

Some pages in Denduron were hilaroius, like when Bobby said Uncle Press caught him making out with Nancy Kilgore, and when Courtney was in Mark's room and looking at a superhero poster than a Sports Illustrated poster. I laughed really hard. Thanks for showing me this new series! I love it!

Hey Zach and Beth-
I read the first Redwall book and thought it was so boring. I almost fell asleep. I gave the series another try by reading "Mattimeo" and I absolutley loved that one. After that I stopped reading them because the auhtor came out with like 50 of them overnight and it just got too overwhelming. Isnt there like a book # 20 or something. Thats too much for me so thats why I decided to quit reading them.

Hey Madora-
What is the story of "The Golden Conpass"? I saw the cover and it looked sort of good. Some one else said it was good too so I may read it after I finsih the "Pendragon" series. Tell me more please!!

I read Harry Potter and I ooved them all. When book # 5 came out I went o Borders at midinght to get it and I ending up reading it till like 5 in the morning. I couldnt put it down. The 6th book comes out in July and its called "Harry Potter and the Half Prince". How cool is that??!! I can't wait! Get back!!!

Right now I am REALLY into the Harry Potter series. I'm in the middle of Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, and it is sooo good. I read the first book twice, and now that I've moved on, the first book (Harry Potter and Sorcerors Stone) is probably the worst one. As the storie goes on, it's a little harder to follow along with the story, but I just double back and read the same passage over again until I fully understand what's going on. I really feel for Hagrid right now. I can really picture what the hippogriffs look like in my mind, it's soo cool! I think I already knows what is going to happen because I've already seen the movie, but it's still really exciting to read the book. The books are a LOT better than the movies. The movies leave out so much! My suggestion is to try and read all the books, and THEN see the movie. After that, then you'll see what I mean. Also, I have a question for all of you bloggers (those that read Harry Potter books anyway). Which book in your oppinion is the best? I'd really like to know! thx.
Anna

At February 7, 2005 2:25 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...
